Project Overview

The goal of this project was to design an adjustable monitor arm capable of supporting a desktop display while maintaining sufficient stiffness and stability.

The design was developed in SolidWorks and evaluated using finite element analysis to study deformation and stress under representative loading conditions.

Design Requirements

CAD Development

The monitor arm assembly was modeled in SolidWorks with separate components for the mounting structure, arm sections, joints, and VESA mounting plate.

The geometry was developed with attention to component fit, range of motion, structural stiffness, and ease of assembly.

Finite Element Analysis

Finite element analysis was used to evaluate the structure under applied monitor loading.

Stress and displacement results were reviewed to identify highly loaded regions and determine whether the geometry provided adequate stiffness.

Design Iteration

Results from the structural analysis were used to refine the geometry and improve the overall design.

Changes focused on improving stiffness, reducing unnecessary material, and maintaining practical manufacturing geometry.

Final Design

The final concept combined an adjustable multi-link arm, desk-mounted base, and monitor mounting plate into a complete assembly.

The project provided experience integrating CAD modeling, mechanical design decisions, and simulation into a single design workflow.
